Natural Resources Canada's Home Heating System Cost Calculator is an easy tool for projecting savings in energy expenditures to use when it's time for a heating system upgrade. Results are based on device type, fuel source, house style and age, and number of occupants. It is also an excellent tool for determining the likelihood of qualifying for further grants and incentives based on efficiency ratings.

Carbon Zero Offset Management Group Inc. has a comprehensive Carbon Emissions Calculator that determines annual tonnage of CO2 put into the atmosphere by furnaces, depending on fuel consumption, type and location. It works well in tandem with the Home Heating System Cost Calculator.

City Green Solutions' Efficiency Tips

Sustainability Grants and Incentives:
BC Hydro's Fridge Buy-Back initiative is one of their Rebates & Savings programs. They will pick up your old inefficient fridge, safely recycle it, and give you $30.

Terasen Gas offers an ongoing ENERGY STAR heating system upgrade offer. They will give you a $250 credit your gas bill for installing systems that meet an Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE) rating of 85% or higher. If it is time to upgrade your furnace or boiler, and you have decided to purchase to an efficient low-emissions model, take advantage of this opportunity to offset your expense.
